Candy-colored Deneuve | Spooky Deneuve

Catherine Deneuve in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
This bittersweet movie has been on my mind lately. (Have you seen?) It's not to everyone's taste - every word is sung - but there's a famous candy-colored set (the clothes and wallpaper match!)...

The opening credits (here) are so beautifully choreographed...

And the movie of course made Catherine Deneuve a star.

And since it's Halloween! Something from the spooky end of the Deneuve spectrum...

Deneuve plays a *very* unhinged woman in Repulsion, and it does a good job putting you in her shoes. Too good...

Cracking up, Catherine Deneuve in Repulsion
Because I seriously felt unhinged too! As I fell asleep, I could've sworn I heard my walls cracking (like the movie) & thumps in the flat, even though I was home alone (like the movie).

{Luckily: The next morning, I saw the plaster in the hall had cracked (the cracking noise) and fallen to the floor (the thumps). I was NOT crazy, yippee!}
~ Have a candy-colored and spooky Halloween! ~

I've never seen this movie, but the set colors are really neat! To be honest, I'm not a fan of scary movies. It's always fun to watch it, but I just can't handle the aftermath. The scary thoughts lurking in my mind... the fear of being alone in an empty house... I just jump and freak myself out with any little sound!

Neither are movies I've seen unfortunately. Don't you find that French movies always have a distinctive style? I love them and we frequently buy French movie DVDs in order to improve our French.

I'm a fan of Catherine Deneuve too - ever since I heard her being asked the secret to remaining beautiful past 50. Basically the answer was put on weight: 'At a certain age you have to choose between your ass and your face.' Now there's advice I don't mind following! ;)

BTW, I'd *love* to hear your spooky Hawaiian stories!

Ooh I really want to see that Roman Polanski film! I went a week ago to a musical based on a film of him and it was amazing!
Have a great, scary weekend!

How have I missed these two movies? Going to go see about getting them in my Netflix queue pronto. I hear noises at night all the time. My husband always says it's just the house "breathing" and I think that's exactly what I'm afraid of!

Must see that movie! I never have before!

And I'm still trying to remember that candy store name but I have to tell you I just stopped by Dean & Deluca for lunch and they had a whole bunch of British candy displayed ontop of the cash wrap counter which they never had before!

Have a great weekend, sweetie :)

I was just thinking that I want to get a really scary movie for Halloween night (too much work and traveling lately to have the energy for partying--haha) . . . that is, after I watch both the Saints/Steelers game and the Giants/Rangers game! I'm not really a movie person in general . . . though Repulsion sounds good!

I saw this film on IFC awhile ago and couldnt decide if I liked it or not..the scenery was great, the colors vivid, but the singing was consuming

I've not seen either of them. I'd probably like the first, but am such a wussy at scary movies so maybe not the second? Roman Polanski is such a dirty bird!

I've never seen the first movie but I have seen repulsion in film class. That woman is crazy. I loved watching it, I'm a sucker for b&w films. I refuse to watch scary movies too.

I'm a fan of hers! So gorgeous and talented. I haven't seen that first film but I love musicals so singing every word shouldn't be a problem.

Jude,
So funny! Your cracked wall story made me laugh. It reminds me of a time that I went to bed and then I heard this strange noise like something getting pulled or scraped off the wall. It went on for a long time and in the dark I just laid in my bed in fear. Suddenly, a poster I had taped above my bed, fell on me and scared me like crazy!

Fun read-sounds do seem louder when I'm home alone or I've just watched a movis like 'The Sixth Sense'! Deneuve is still such a stylish dresser.

Your cinematic tastes extend way beyond because while I know of Deneuve, I am not familiar with any of her work. Gotta love that wallpaper though!

Haven't seen either of these. What a weird coincidence... I mean, how often does that kind of thing (plaster in the hall cracking) happen? not often, I'd say, and it just had to happen after you'd watched that film...?! oooooohhhhh spoooooky!!!
