{For the August Break: Photographed at Kapolei, Hawaii}
The westerly shores of Oahu feel miles from city life. Tourists don't visit much, but I've old-timey childhood memories of picking limu (tasty edible seaweed) out there on Ewa Beach.
P.S. Here's limu used in a delicious Hawaiian dish called poke (poh-keh): comprising raw fish tossed with limu (see the fleshy dark strands?), sea salt & other yum extras...it's like Hawaiian "sushi." :)
Hm Hawaiian sushi? I'd definitely try it. It looks like 'normal' sushi actually... like tuna and those special leaves (what are they called again? shiso?)
ReplyDeleteI love poke! And Hawaii just makes my heart sing! I've been there three times in the last three years and I can't wait to go back!
ReplyDeleteThat coastline looks heavenly. :)
ReplyDeleteThat shoreline is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI used to work for a guy from Hawaii and he made this dish for me! It was really good! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my, now I really REALLY want to go visit Hawaii! Looks lovely :)
ReplyDeleteHi Cafe Bellini - you hit the nail on the head! The dish has definitely been influenced by other cultures, and not least of all, the true sushi folks :) That's scallions thrown in (but I LOVE the idea of shiso!)
ReplyDeleteHi Dancing Branflakes - ooh, so fun to "meet" another poke connoisseur (whose not necessarily from Hawaii!) It's pretty yum stuff, for sure! :)
Another gorgeous shoreline!
ReplyDeleteHi Angelcel - thanks so much, I've been enjoying your photos immensely!

ReplyDeleteOMG, Hawaiian Sushi ! It looks so delicious, it looks almost like our (I'm Japanese) maguro-don = marinated raw tuna with rice in a bowl.
